Kristen’s Stylist Dishes On Her MET Gala Look & The One Trend Kristen Will Never Try

Posted by on Tuesday, May 7, 2013

When it came time for the red carpet at last night’s Met Gala, we had a list of people we couldn’t wait to see—and Kristen Stewart was definitely one of them. The 23-year-old starlet turned up (sadly without Robert Pattinson) in a glamorous red jumpsuit by Stella McCartney, and was instantly one of the night’s standout stars.

Naturally, we had to consult her longtime stylist, Tara Swennen—who also dressed Teresa Palmer in Diane von Furstenberg for the big night—to get the full scoop. Swennen and K-Stew have worked together since the actress was 14 years old, so it’s no surprise that she has some great insight into the A-lister’s much-discussed sense of style.

Below, Swennen dishes on what it takes to style such a major event, as well as Stewart’s fashion evolution, and the one trend the “Twilight” actress refuses to try.

StyleCaster: The Met Gala is fashion’s biggest night. How is prepping for the red carpet different than others?

Tara Swennen: For both Kristen Stewart and Teresa Palmer, we started about a month out by figuring out who they were going with. We loved the idea of Stella McCartney for Kristen because she hasn’t gone with a girl before, so we were having our girl power moment. Teresa went with Diane von Furstenberg which was an organic fit as well. I never thought both of my girls would end up in red lace for a punk themed gala!

With Kristen, we went over the sketches via email—and it was unanimous decision that we really liked the jumpsuit. Stella had given us the option of doing it in black or green and the cranberry red color that we ended up going with. Kristen went back and forth between the red and the green—and we just decided we loved it. Her hair is a little bit reddish right now, so we thought it would complement it well.

Kristen Stewart let loose with pals on Friday night in Los Angeles.

Hitting up El Arco Iris restaurant for some Mexican food and fun, the former Twilight star was joined by a group of male and female friends, and they ordered a big bowl of chicken soup, a pitcher of the strawberry margarita and a pitcher of the house special margarita.

“Kristen and her friends did a tequila shot,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “The staff said that Kristen was super sweet and was very thankful and even took photos with them.”

Dressed casually in jeans and a white T-shirt, the actress wore her hair wavy and down and flashed a peace sign in a photo that was taken at the eatery.

New LA Times Portrait + Interview

I’ve added one new portrait photo of Kristen and her On The Road co-star to the gallery.

There’s traffic from Silver Lake. That’s why Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund, the stars of On the Road, are late to the Benedict Room of the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. We’re as psychically far from Jack Kerouac’s Beat gospel as you can get: fidgeting under crystal chandeliers in a $400-per-night hotel, with guests in comfy white robes riding gilded elevators and maids pushing breakfast trays of eggs Hollandaise and medicine ball–sized avocados.

The journey from scroll to screen has been an equally strange odyssey.

Kristen’s Stylist Talks About Kristen’s Fashion Evolution

Posted by on Tuesday, November 20, 2012

As we’ve watched Kristen Stewart grace countless red carpets at “Twilight” press tours over the last four years, one thing is for sure: Her sense of style has evolved tremendously. With last week’s release of “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” the final film in the staggeringly successful franchise, we thought it was only appropriate to seek out Tara Swennen, the stylist behind K-Stew’s headline-making looks, and hear a bit about why she made the sartorial choices she did for the actress, and how Stewart’s style has graduated from hoodies and Converse to head-turning couture.

Read on to hear what Swennen has to say about K-Stew’s top looks, her style evolution, and Nicolas Ghesquière’s departure from Balenciaga.

StyleCaster News: Stewart has had some pretty major red carpet moments. What are her biggest standout looks so far, in your opinion?

Tara Swennen: The nude Zuhair Murad at last week’s premiere of “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” the white bra and black Balenciaga pants at the “On the Road” premiere, the black fully beaded Roberto Cavalli dress at the London premiere of “Breaking Dawn Part 1,” the pleated gray Balenciaga skirt and top with mesh panels that she wore in Spain in 2009, and the Proenza Schouler look for the “New Moon” photo call in the UK in 2009, which was a printed multicolored sweater and zebra print skirt.

How has her style evolved since you’ve been working together, and what have you incorporated into her wardrobe to show her growth?

The truth is, both Kristen and I are T-shirt and jeans kind of girls that love to play dress up! Through the years, Kristen has embraced fashion and with each new year comes a newfound courage to try bolder and more cutting-edge pieces.

Ben Affleck Mentions Kristen

Posted by on Friday, November 16, 2012

Kristen Stewart may be “desperate” to get some new work now that Twilight is coming to an end, but she’s going to be just fine, thankyouverymuch.

In fact, it does sound like Ben Affleck is itching to work with her in Focus, a romantic comedy from Crazy Stupid Love directing duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra.

It was reported by Variety earlier this month that K. Stew was in talks to costar as a young woman Affleck’s character, a veteran grifter, meets in his travels.

We asked Affleck for an update when we caught up with him the other night at the GQ Men of the Year party at Chateau Marmont.

“I’m hesitant to get into casting stuff because I don’t know what’s finished or isn’t because people come in and out of things all the time,” he said. “But she’s terrific and hopefully it will work out.”

Fingers-crossed.

10 Kristen Stewart’s Classic Updo With a Twist

WHEN: At a May 29 Los Angeles screening of Snow White and the Huntsman.
WHY IT MATTERS: Her look combined punk and polish.
“I was never OK having a ‘do’ — I always wanted my hair to look like it fell perfectly, but not perfect,” says Stewart, 22, who credits her longtime hairstylist Abergel with creating her “undone” style. Even this updo looked disheveled and effortlessly cool. “I wanted to give a punk edge, but still keep softness like an old-school Victorian updo,” says Abergel, who first created volume and texture at the roots, then did a partial French braid at the top of the head. From the base of that braid to the nape of the neck, he executed a Mohawk look by twisting sections of hair into knots and creating a line of them down the head. Then he finished the braid at the nape and twisted it around to create an elaborate-yet-undone updo. “No matter what we do, Kristen’s wearing the hair and it’s never wearing her,” says Abergel, who met the star of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (out Nov. 16) eight years ago on a magazine shoot. “I fell in love with her immediately and was inspired by how passionate she was at such a young age.”

Who Wore It Better? – Kristen Vs Amanda Seyfried

Posted by on Friday, November 2, 2012

Side parts are popping up everywhere from the runway to the red carpet! Amanda Seyfried and Kristen Stewart channel the deep part trend seen at spring 2013 shows like Band of Outsiders, Derek Lam, DKNY, and Alice & Olivia. Sweeping all your hair to one side is an easy way to add instant glamour to any hairstyle.

Amanda wore her blonde waves parted on her left side, letting her hair fall in a shiny cascade down her shoulder. The retro-glam look works perfectly with her orangey lip color and matching orange and cream strappy dress for the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala.

Kristen stayed true to her edgy sense of style by pairing her side part with unkempt waves and thick, black eyeliner Her fair skin and pale lips are reminiscent of her ghostly pale character Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two.

Both star’s look beautiful, but whose hairstyle do you like better? Vote!

The 6 allies of Kristen Stewart

The American face of Florabotanica, the new Balenciaga juice, has the biggest Hollywood salaries, and a sense of coquetry bang on trend.
- Sabine Maida

1. The sharp perfume
“I’m not crazy of perfume, but this Balenciaga juice pleases me! I vaporize it on my wrists during the day, to give me a boost, and the evening, to go out. Fragrance helps to feel more self-assured, more women.” Florabotanica, Balenciaga

2. Dry shampoo
“I am not of these Americans who go every day to the hairdresser. I wash my hair just once or twice a week, I often refresh them with a dry shampoo.” Full Detox, Ojon

3. Black mascara
“This is my favorite makeup product! I am not loyal to a formula or a particular brand. I try all mascaras, in fact…” Back mascara, Calvin Klein

4. Salt water spray
“I don’t like sophisticated hairstyles! I rarely brush my hair… I’m from L.A. and beach look what I prefer, surfer style of Santa Monica.” Surf Spray, Bumble and Bumble

5. Best skin care tips
“I’m too young [22] to consult a skin specialist, I look after mine with the excellent products SkinCeuticals. And if a spot comes, I use the Pro-active range, sold in the USA.” Skinceuticals Hydrating B5

She also likes…

• Milk: “I drink a lot, for nutriments. And I consume a cocktail of vitamins with magnesium. I’m not trying to stay thin but not to lose too much weight! I hate being rachitic, so I feel like a guy, losing all femininity.”
• Jodie Foster: “She is my number one american beauty icon! Her style has not changed since her debut… And she is always adorable when I see her.”
• The naturalness: “I am a cool Californian, the opposite of siliconed, discolored creatures of L.A. For example, I love living without socks…”
