Written By: Maria | Filed Under: Appearances , Co-Stars , The Runaways
There have been rumblings all day that Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning might head Down Under.
According to buzz, the two stars of The Runaways âmay make an appearanceâ at the Sydney Film Festival in June, when the film has its Australian premiere. A âsourceâ close to festival organizers claims there have been talks about orchestrating a visit by the Twilight twosome (as well as Ewan McGregor), but that nothing had been determined.
Gossip Cop has gotten to the bottom of supposed Aussie travel for Stewart before, so we wanted to vet the newest rumors.
While weâre trying to confirm Stewartâs plans, a rep for Fanning was âcompletely unawareâ of the Sydney event.
We will update.
Kristen Stewart Was the Perfect Joan Jett

Little known fact about Jennifer Stone? She auditioned for the role of Joan Jett in The Runaways!
The 17-year-old actress dished to JJJ at Disneyâs Friends For Change shoot yesterday afternoon that she actually auditioned for the part that ultimately went to Kristen Stewart.
Jennifer shared, âIâve always loved Joan Jett and when I heard Kristen Stewart got the part, I was like, âTotally get that.â She did a phenomenal job. I watched a lot of Joanâs YouTube videos to get in the mindset of the part. Sheâs such a great role model for young girls that I didnât want to screw anything up. Iâm so happy Kristen got that part.â
When we asked if she would recast the movie, Jenn told us, âI wouldnât recast. It was flawless. Everyone â Dakota Fanning and Kristen, did a fantastic job. There isnât anyone who Iâd recast.â

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, who star together in the coming film The Runaways, may make an appearance on the red carpet at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.
The movie will make its Australian premiere during the annual festival, which runs from June 2 to 14. A source close to the organisers has revealed talks are taking place for a possible visit from Stewart and Fanning.
Scottish star Ewan McGregor may also be in talks to visit for the premiere of his new film The Ghost Writer, but a publicist for the festival would not say anything official yet: “Regarding Kristen, Dakota and Ewan . . . unfortunately we cannot confirm anything at this stage.
Stewart stars as ’70s rock legend Joan Jett in the biopic film and Fanning plays Cherie Currie, the lead singer of Jett’s band. The pair even share an on-screen kiss.
McGregor, meanwhile, stars in The Ghost Writer as an author penning the memoirs of a former prime minister of Britain, played by Pierce Brosnan.
Also adding to the buzz surrounding the festival, British graffiti artist Banksy is rumoured to be staging a stunt for the premiere of his film Exit Through the Gift Shop

Good Box Office Weekend For “The Runaways”
Written By: Megan | Filed Under: The Runaways
Despite the unfortunate news that the Runaways would not have the intended wide-release this weekend and the lack of press leading up to this weekend, its still managed to deliver at the box office. Good news:)!
Indie Wire on the Runaways Performance this weekend:
This was supposed to be the weekend that Floria Sigismondiâs music biopic âThe Runaways,â starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, was supposed to expand to 1,000+ screens. Instead, and potentially due to a good-not-great first few weekends in limited release, the film went to 204 screens across North America (up from 84 last weekend). The result was actually something distributor Apparition should be quite happy with. Grossing $470,000, âThe Runawaysâ saw its per-theater-average boost up from $2,173 to $2,304 despite the screen jump. That brought its total to $2,517,000.
Alt Film Guide on the Runaways Performance this weekend:
Kristen Stewart â Dakota Fanningâs THE RUNAWAYS Jumps 182%: Box Office
At 204 screens, the Kristen Stewart-Dakota Fanning vehicle The Runaways added $470K (+182.2%) this weekend thanks to the addition of 120 sites, according to Box Office Mojo. Â Its per-screen average, however, was low for a movie in limited release: $2,304. On the other hand, the good news is that The Runaways actually boasted a per-screen average increase after more than doubling its number of theaters. Thatâs quite unusual. Generally speaking, per-screen averages drop when thereâs a surge in the number of theaters screening a particular movie. Â Last weekend, at only 84 theaters, The Runaways averaged $1,981; the previous week, at 237 screens, its average was $1,920. Something was done right this weekend â Iâm not quite sure what; Kristen Stewartâs 20th birthday celebration? â to bring more butts to more theaters seats. Â Directed and written by Floria Sigismondi, The Runaways has been greeted by mixed reviews. But generally, Dakota Fanning and especially Kristen Stewart have received positive-to-enthusiastic notices. Â To date, the Joan Jett-Cherie Currie biopic has grossed $2.51 million in North America. It cost $10 million.
Kristen talks about her âEclipseâ wig

Taylor Lautner wearing a wig in the âTwilight Sagaâ isnât anything new to fans of the franchise, but due to a Joan Jett haircut for her latest film âThe Runaways,â Kristen Stewart also had to don a wig for âEclipse.â
âIt was fine. Iâve worn wigs before, just not with such ⌠I just felt such a tactile thing with Joan [that I cut my hair for the role],â she told MTV News on the red carpet of âThe Runawaysâ premiere. âShe holds all of her energy in her hands. I can be Bella without my hair, but I couldnât play Joan without.âAnd while some teenage girls would not have been too eager to chop off their locks, Stewart said she didnât have an emotional attachment to her strands. âI think Dakota was more emotional than I was, to be honest,â she said. âShe, like, almost cried when I cut my hair. It was something I needed to do. I needed to feel the sweat coming down my face and, like, I needed to be able to touch it. I just needed to do it.â
The bond between Stewart and Fanning went far beyond that of just hair â the girls admitted that they became really good friends while shooting the flick. âIt would have been really awful had we not [gotten along],â she said. âIt is really rare, I have to say. Iâve worked with so many young people. Iâve met so many young people, actors, and everyoneâs different. Everybodyâs doing things for different reasons. I strongly admire [her]. Itâs cool.â
